Grizzlies still ranked second in eight-man poll
The Colorado High School Activities Association released its weekly football coaches polls on Monday. The polls are posted on the CHSAANow.com web site.
After a 45-7 loss to Pueblo County, La Junta dropped out of the Top 10 after being ranked eighth last week.
Lamar remained the fourth-ranked team, while Pagosa Springs rose from seventh to sixth.
Resurrection Christian is the new top-ranked team, followed by last week's No. 1, Delta. Sterling is third, followed Lamar, Platte Valley, Pagosa Springs, Eaton, Woodland Park, University and Severance.
La Junta is listed as "others receiving votes" as Bayfield. Also in this category are Brush, Manitou Springs, Berthoud, D'Evelyn and Moffat County.
After two lop-sided victories to open the season, Cheraw has entered the six-man rankings. The Wolverines debut at No. 8.
One other Southeast League team is in the Top 10 as Granada remains at No. 6.
Fleming is the new No. 1-ranked team, followed by last week's top-ranked team, Stratton/Liberty.
Kit Carson is third, followed by Cheyenne Wells, Prairie, Granada, Eads, Cheraw, Hi-Plains and Briggsdale.
Branson/Kim, which was ranked 10th last week, dropped out of the Top 10, but is mentioned as "others receiving votes" along with Walsh. Also mentioned are Peetz, North Park, Genoa-Hugo, Idalia, Kiowa, Deer Trail, Hanover, Miami-Yoder, Mountain Valley and Sierra Grande.
Two local teams are in the eight-man poll as Fowler is still ranked second and Crowley County rose from eighth to fifth.
Pikes Peak Christian is the only Southern League team in the rankings as it is seventh.
Sedgwick County still tops the rankings, followed by Fowler, Sanford, Mancos, Crowley County, Merino, Pikes Peak Christian, Dove Creek, Rangely and Haxtun.
Holly and Simla are in the "others receiving votes" category along with Dayspring Christian, West Grand, Sargent, Byers and Soroco.
In Class 1A, Florence is ranked fourth, Colorado Springs Christian in eighth and Peyton is 10th.
Limon is still ranked first, followed by Strasburg, Meeker, Florence, Centauri, Wray, Holyoke, Colorado Springs Christian, Hotchkiss and Peyton.
Highland, Yuma, Cedaredge, Banning Lewis, Wiggins, Bennett, Olathe and Monte Vista are listed as "others receiving votes."
In the other polls, Cherry Creek is ranked first in Class 5A, Dakota Ridge is the Class 4A No. 1 team, and Roosevelt tops the Class 3A rankings.
