Rocky boys finish fifth at state meet

The Rocky Ford High School cross country teams finished the 2020 season at the Class 2A State Meet which took place Saturday at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs.

The Meloneers finished fifth in the boys meet with 101 points. They finished behind state champion Heritage Christian which scored 54 points, runner-up Lyons with 59, Peyton with 64 and St. Mary's with 87.

Leading the Meloneers was Josh Snyder, who was 13th in 18:19.8. Caden Miller placed 17th in 18:26.6, Ethan Robinson was 50th in 19:32.3, Jason Hernandez was 60th in 19:47.8, and Fredrick Rikhof was 76th in 20:18.8.

Kidus Bradshaw of Lotus School for Excellence was the individual champion in 16:17.8.

The Lady Meloneers were 14th in the girls meet with 214 points. They were led by Anahy Prieto, who placed 57th in 24:04.8. Katie Preciado was 64th in 24:28.4, Abbie Snyder was 79th in 25:08.8, Kaysa Kurtz-Merwin was 80th in 25:16.3, and Kailene Black was 81st in 25:28.2.

Buena Vista won the girls state championship with 31 points, followed by Lake County with 41, Lyons with 93, Colorado Springs Christian with 98 and Centauri with 106.

Vanguard's Ella Johnson was the girls individual champion in 19:34.5.
