Southeast Colorado high school football: Top-10 clash between Holly, Fowler this Friday

Here's a look at this week's high school football games involving southeast Colorado teams.

NO. 8 HOLLY (2-1, 1-0) AT NO. 2 FOWLER (5-0, 4-0)

This week: The second-ranked Fowler High School football team will end the regular season as it will host eighth-ranked Holly on Friday. Kickoff at Vibber Field is at 7 p.m.

Last week: The Grizzlies defeated seventh-ranked Crowley County 32-22 last Friday in Ordway. The Wildcats were scheduled to host McClave last Friday, however, that game was canceled because of a COVID-19 quarantine at McClave. They lost to top-ranked Sedgwick County 56-8 on Nov. 2 in Limon.

COVID attendance: Fowler High School's statement is that it will follow guidelines set by the Otero County Health Department. Only 75 spectators per side are allowed and only those on the gate list will be allowed to enter.

Next week: Whether Fowler or Holly will play in Week 7 is undetermined. Both teams are in contention for a playoff slot in Colorado eight-man football.

NO. 7 CROWLEY COUNTY (3-1, 1-1) AT WILEY (1-4, 1-3)

This week: The seventh-ranked Crowley County High School football team will close out the regular season on Friday at Wiley. Kickoff at the Panthers' field is at 7 p.m.

Last week: The Chargers lost to second-ranked Fowler 32-22 in Ordway last Friday. The Panthers lost to Springfield 30-28 on the road last Saturday.

COVID attendance: Crowley County fans will enter the stadium from the north gate and will sit on the east side. Masks and distancing are required. Cars can park around the field and spectators can use folding chairs around the track.

Next week: Whether Crowley County or Wiley will play in Week 7 is undetermined. Crowley County is in contention for a postseason slot in eight-man football.

RYE (1-1, 0-1) AT ROCKY FORD (0-5, 0-3) — CANCELED

This week: The Rocky Ford High School football team was scheduled to host Rye on Saturday. However, the game has been canceled because of COVID cases.

Last week: The Meloneers lost to Peyton 28-7 last Friday in Peyton. The Thunderbolts had not played since losing to Peyton 43-0 at home on Oct. 16.

Next week: Rocky Ford's season is completed. Whether Rye will play in Week 7 is undetermined.

SPRINGFIELD (1-4, 1-3) AT McCLAVE (0-4, 0-3) — POSTPONED

This week: The McClave High School football team's home game scheduled for Friday has been postponed. The game will be played on Nov. 21 beginning at 1 p.m.

Last week: The Cardinals did not play because of a COVID quarantine. The Longhorns defeated Wiley 30-28 last Friday at home.

WALSH (1-3, 1-1) AT MANZANOLA (1-4, 1-2)

This week: The Manzanola High School football team will finish the regular season by hosting Walsh on Friday. Kickoff at the Bobcats' field is at 7 p.m.

Last week: The Bobcats lost to Cheraw 82-38 last Friday in Cheraw. The Eagles were scheduled to play Granada but the game was canceled because of COVID-19 cases at Walsh. Their last game was a 45-30 loss to Sierra Grande at home on Oct. 31.

COVID attendance: Manzanola is allowing a total of 250 fans at its home games. Wear a mask. Main parking lot will be closed. Park along County Road 11.5. Manzy fans will enter through the gate at the first base side of the baseball field; visitors through north gate closest to the gym. Home fans will use restroom by concession stand; visitors will use handicap restroom in the gym.

Next week: Whether Manzanola or Walsh will play in Week 7 is undetermined.
