26 Arkansas Valley wrestlers in this week's On the Mat high school wrestling rankings

Tim Yount released his weekly On the Mat high school wrestling rankings on Friday — prior to the final action of the regular season.

Two local teams are in the Class 2A rankings. Rocky Ford rose from seventh to sixth, while Crowley County remained in the eighth position. One other Santa Fe League team, John Mall, rose from ninth to fifth.

Wray is still the No. 1 ranked team, followed by Centauri, Buena Vista, Cedaredge, John Mall, Rocky Ford, Meeker, Crowley County, Lyons, Dolores Huerta and Yuma.

Lamar is the only Tri-Peaks League team in the Class 3A rankings as it is ranked 10th.

Pagosa Springs remained at the top of the rankings, followed by Valley, Eaton, Weld Central, Bennett, Jefferson, Platte Valley, Sterling, Alamosa and Lamar.

There are 26 local individuals ranked in their respective weight classes this week.

In Class 3A, La Junta has four ranked wrestlers. The ranked Tigers include Jeremiah "Butch" Martinez, who is third at 132 pounds, Mitchell Peabody, who is third at 220, Elijah Montalvan, who is eighth at 106, and Benny Diego Gonzales, who is 14th at 113.

The remaining ranked individuals are in the Class 2A ranks.

Rocky Ford leads the way with eight in the standings. Ranked for the Meloneers are Joziah Maestas, who is third at 160, Dezmon Reyes, who is third at 126, Joe Zamora, who is third at 120, Payton Froman, who is fifth at 285, D.J. Baca, who is ninth at 138, Benny Carl Gonzales, who is ninth at 113, Dominic Gauna, who is 10th at 106, and Kevin Tillman, who is 10th at 220.

Swink has two ranked performers in Matthew Mendoza, who is second at 160, and Tatum White, who is ninth at 126.

Fowler has three mentioned wrestlers in J.J. Horn, who is third at 220, Waitley Sharon, who is fifth at 106, and Jasper Smith, who is 10th at 285.

Crowley County put five wrestlers in the rankings in Adam Schulz, who is second at 182, Tach Brewer, who is fourth at 145, Case Buford, who is fourth at 132, Dillon Buford, who is fourth at 126, and Aidan Holloran, who is 11th at 145.

The County Line Rivals co-op team has three in the rankings in Aiden Michael, who is ninth at 152, Tate Krentz, who is 13th at 138, and Cade Zordel, who is 13th at 170.

Las Animas' sole ranked wrestler is Alex Torres, who is 14th at 138 pounds.

In the girls team rankings, Chatfield is the top-ranked team, followed by Pomona, Denver East, Legacy, Doherty, Loveland, Olathe, Douglas County, Fort Lupton and Mesa Ridge.

No local girls are in the rankings.
