Edit Morales powers Swink volleyball to win over Las Animas
The Swink High School volleyball team had a dominating first set in its home match against Las Animas Friday at the Lions Den, as the Lions won 25-10.
But the Trojans weren't going to make it easy in the next two sets. However, the Lions were able to win those sets 29-27 and 26-24 to take the three-set sweep.
"They fought us pretty hard," said Swink coach Sesally Coffelt. "We didn't do what we were supposed to do. We didn't finish the game like we thought we should have. But Las Animas brought some good competition too. They did some good things."
Leading the Lions was the hitting of Edit Morales. who had 17 kills. She also recorded two big service aces at the end of the second set which proved to be the game-winning points.
"When Edit's on, she's on," Coffelt said. "There's no stopping her."
Jolie Bond was also big for Swink with seven kills and six aces. Jada Chavez led the team in assists with 24.
For the Trojans, Shelby Eck was the top hitter with nine kills. Danica Maes led in assists with 12.
Swink (3-1, 3-1 Santa Fe League) will play at Rocky Ford on Tuesday. Las Animas (0-5, 0-4) will play at Rye on Thursday.
