Fowler, Swink top two girls golf teams at Rye Invitational

Fowler High School was first and Swink second at the Rye Invitational on Thursday.

The Fowler and Swink high school girls golf teams finished first and second, respectively, at the Rye Invitational held Thursday at Hollydot Golf Course.

La Junta also competed at Rye and finished in sixth place.

Fowler had a team score of 294 as Laiken Griffy led the Grizzlies with a fifth-place finish at 90. Alyssa Maestas tied for eighth with a 99, Jacelyn Hagerman was 12th with a 105, and Macy Cash was 32nd with a 139.

Swink was three strokes behind Fowler with 297. Once again, the Lions were led by Kinzie Ensor who was second with an 82. Jade Hunter was 11th with a 104, Emma Hanagan was 13th with a 111, and Teagan Summers was 22nd with a 123.

La Junta had a team score of 329. Morgan McReynolds was the Tigers' top golfer as she was fourth with an 89. Elah Backes tied for 19th with a 119, and Sari Schrock was 21st with a 121.

Pueblo South's Zoey Rodriguez was the medalist at 72.

Following Fowler and Swink in the team standings were Rye with 311, Pueblo East with 317, and Pueblo South with 318. Rounding out the team scoring were Pueblo Centennial with 357 and Trinidad with 367.

All three schools will return to Hollydot on Wednesday for the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament. The tournament begins at 9 a.m.

The top two teams and the top 13 individuals not on any of the two top teams will advance to the Class 3A State Tournament which will take place June 21-22 at Elmwood Golf Course in Pueblo.
